Patti Smith - Be My Baby 09/03 /2009 Santa Monica Pier (via duramatters)

You can’t tell watching this video, but everyone in the crowd was singing along. It was so perfect…I can’t even explain how perfect it was.

And Lo, for the Earth was empty of form, and void.
And Darkness was all over the face of the Deep.
And We said:

I’m a little embarrassed that I know this man’s name is David Cook. I am thankful to say I am not aware of a single song of his, nor can I remember if we won American Idol or not. We all know the only American Idol winner who means anything to America is Kelly Clarkson. I’m glad I live in that America. That’s an America that is working in a correct manner.

I didn’t know who David Cook is but I love that he is yelling back at that puppy. This photo kills me.

Repo Man, The Death of Duke (via ash93)

I am all over Repo Man today. I have been meaning to see it since like 1997 and finally got it from Netflix and it is 100% my jam right now.

Held together soley by friction and gravity.

I’ve seen this! I think in San Diego. The best part was that where I saw it, they let just like one or two nails get out and just sit on the floor. I was trying to figure out if they did it on purpose, like so you’d believe it was legit and not secretly glued together, or if the nails really fell out by accident.

“I hid under your porch because I love you.”
Definitely the funniest line in Up right there.

It is hard to describe or even remember exactly how the weekend went for me, but let’s just say I did not go to Disneyland.

Leonard Mlodinow in The Drunkard’s Walk: How Randomness Rules Our Lives

Leonard Mlodinow’s reaction upon receiving the news that he had tested positive for HIV, a result which was ultimately revealed to be a false positive. Leonard fails to provide the reader with enough data to determine the probability that he would visit Disneyland on any given weekend. This reader is left to wonder if this information is meant as a mathematically ambiguous elaboration on his otherwise vaguely described reaction to this news or if he is merely providing us with an casual aside regarding the particulars of his social calendar.

Also, I am enjoying this popular rendering of the history of the concept of probability.

(via mumblelard)

As someone who at some points of my life has had an approximately 50% Disneyland:weekend ratio, I appreciated mumblelard’s analysis of this quote. There are definitely those of us for whom this would just be a matter-of-fact statement.

Brush Your Bittersweet Shoulder Off - Jay-Z and The Verve

Probably my favorite mash-up ever. About this time a year ago, Ed and I used to blast this song as loud as possible while weaving all over the city in his BMDubs. If you listen to this song drunk or high, get ready to be changed. It’s one of those jams where if you blast it really loudly, you can’t even talk or think about anythig else becasue you’re just sitting back with your mind blown and your soul being CHANGED.

This is an excellent call. Not sure it’s my favorite mashup EVER ever…but it’s probably the best one I’ve heard in the last like six months.
